GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV — July 1, 2026 — AmForge Corporation announced today that AmFlash — its joint venture with Flash Metals USA — has selected Greenbrier Smokeless Coal Mining, LLC in Greenbrier County, West Virginia as the anchor facility for its AmFlash REE-Met critical mineral recovery initiative, a national hub-and-spoke critical mineral recovery network. The selection positions West Virginia at the center of a domestic supply chain for rare earth elements essential to defense systems, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy infrastructure.

AmFlash is deploying Flash Metals' Flash Joule Heating technology to recover rare earth elements and critical minerals from coal tailings at Greenbrier Smokeless's operations in Rupert, WV. Greenbrier Smokeless, led by CEO and President Amanda Hale, has confirmed support for the initiative and supplied representative material samples for preliminary testing. The operation holds in excess of ten million tons of accumulated refuse and preparation plant tailings.

“We are honored to be selected as the location for the anchor facility for AmFlash's REE-Met critical mineral recovery process from coal tailings. We confirm that the Greenbrier Smokeless Complex is capable of providing not only the feedstock but the property and location for the deployment of a hub-and-spoke processing model. Greenbrier Smokeless is a currently producing metallurgical coal operation with a long history rooted in the community of Rupert, WV. Like many coal producers across the state, we have accumulated significant volumes of refuse material and preparation plant tailings that represent a potential resource in excess of ten million tons. We believe that extracting value from these legacy materials is a forward-looking opportunity with potential benefits for our operations, our workforce, the broader Appalachian region, and the nation's efforts to secure our sovereign critical mineral supply.”

AmForge is also announcing the first of a number of additional strategic sources that will feed the Greenbrier facility. The Woodstock Project — the Plymouth Manganese Deposit in New Brunswick, Canada — provides battery-grade manganese from one of the world's largest carbonate-hosted manganese resources.

The initiative has received significant support from West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner.

“This initiative demonstrates West Virginia's commitment to leading the nation in critical minerals production. AmFlash's selection of Greenbrier Smokeless reflects the state's coal reserves, infrastructure, and skilled workforce. I encourage the U.S. Department of Energy and federal agencies to recognize this project as part of the White House priority effort to establish domestic critical mineral production from Appalachian coal communities.”

Kris Warner · Secretary of State, West Virginia

“West Virginia has the coal reserves, the workforce, and the existing infrastructure to serve as the national model for critical mineral recovery from coal communities. AmFlash selected Greenbrier Smokeless because they have exactly what this initiative requires — a producing operation, a committed leadership team, and feedstock volumes that make commercial-scale recovery viable. This is how America rebuilds supply chain independence: by converting existing assets into strategic resources.”

Dan Whaley · CEO, AmForge Corporation

AmFlash is advancing materials characterization, metallurgical testing, and feasibility studies. The initiative is being coordinated with the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies for funding support aligned with domestic critical minerals production and coal community economic development priorities.
