On February 9, 2026, Inuit Development Company and AmForge signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, to build and operate what is intended to be one of the largest AI data centers in the world. The agreement was signed by Svend Hardenberg, founder and CEO of Inuit Development Company, and Dan Whaley, co-founder and CEO of AmForge.

The partners agreed to proceed with a phased deployment across both energy generation and data center capacity. The project includes a project-specific subsea data cable to connect the facility to global networks.

The facility is expected to be powered by what will likely be the largest sustainable hydroelectric generation project in the Arctic, providing long-duration renewable energy to support hyperscale AI compute operations. The project will leverage flows of glacier melt from under the ice, avoiding negative impacts on biodiversity.

The project is designed to enable local participation, workforce development, and long-term economic benefit for Greenland. It is centered on supporting local workforce participation and local enterprise integration, to maximize the long-term benefits for the Municipality of Qeqqata Kommunia and the Greenland Government.

The parties are pleased that development has reached this phase and look forward to engaging with both the Greenland Government and the Municipality of Qeqqata Kommunia to secure an optimal process going forward.

"AI is here, and growing rapidly. The more it can be powered by sustainable energy, and cooled naturally, the better. Greenland is a uniquely positioned location for this, and we're thrilled to be partnering with Svend and the Inuit Development Company to bring this remarkable project to life."

Dan Whaley · Co-Founder & CEO, AmForge

"It's a great moment in time for sustainable development projects in our country. This specific project has been underway for more than 10 years, and securing the offtake from the hydroelectric facility is the right foundation for this coming important infrastructure. The hydro facility will be running for over a century — generating value for Greenland for a very long time."
